The Colorado Area Health Education Center System
announces The Colorado Trust
Health Professions Scholarship Program
What is the Health Professions Scholarship Program?
A 2-year scholarship to assist enrolled graduate level Health Professions students by paying for a significant
portion of their education.
Who is eligible to apply?
Target groups for this scholarship include enrolled graduate level nursing, graduate level allied health dental,
pharmacy, public health and medical students who plan to practice in a rural community. Certificate programs do
not qualify.
Scholarship Eligibility:
- Be enrolled either at least half-time or full-time in a graduate level health professional program (Master's or
Doctorate degree)
- Agree to practice in a rural and/or underserved community or faculty position upon completion of training for
a minimum of 2-years.
- Be enrolled in an accredited Colorado institution of higher education. Online programs may be acceptable as
long as the home institution is accredited in the State of Colorado
How much is the scholarship?
The scholarship is for up to $15,000 yearly for 2-years; $7,500 yearly for students enrolled half time. The total
value of the scholarship is up to $30,000.
What can the scholarship be used for?
Award letters will be sent to the recipient’s institution. Funds will be paid directly to the recipient’s
institutional financial aid office. These funds will be applied to the recipient’s financial aid package. Funds
may be applied to the recipients existing balance and/or loans for that term. Any unused funds may be paid directly
to the recipient to be used to help cover housing, books, fees, mileage, childcare required for school attendance
and other reasonable costs associated with their educational program.
What is expected of you?
- Agree to practice in a rural and/or underserved community or faculty position upon completion of training for
a minimum of 2-years.
AHEC uses the following definition for rural and urban underserved from HRSA’s Bureau of Health Professions:
Medically Underserved Populations (MUPs) may include groups of persons who face economic, cultural or linguistic barriers to health care, whereas rural very likely to contain small-town and open-country regions that generally lack easy geographical access to services that are concentrated in big cities and their suburban areas (collectively central areas).
- Attend the yearly Colorado Trust Health Professions Scholars Awards Banquet for Awardees.
- Provide evidence of regular progress in their program by sending a yearly progress report and transcript from their educational institution. Students who fail to complete their educational program will not be awarded a second year scholarship. Repayment obligations will apply.
- Students must maintain at least half-time status in their program.
