University of Colorado: Kidney Diseases and Hypertension Practice

Highly Experienced, Internationally Renowned, Board Certified, Academic Nephrologists

 

 

Dr. Charles L. Edelstein is Medical Director of the Clinic. He has practiced internal medicine and nephrology in academic institutions since 1987. He did his training in South Africa and Colorado. He is well known for his work in polycystic kidney disease, acute kidney injury, biomarkers of kidney disease and lupus nephritis. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology.

 

Dr. Tomas Berl has practiced nephrology at the University of Colorado since 1973. He is well known for his work in electrolyte distrubances, heart kidney interaction and diabetic nephropathy. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology. He is a well respected physician and past president of the American Society of Nephrology (ASN).

 

Dr. Isaac Teitelbaum has practiced academic nephrology for over 20 years and is well known for his work on peritoneal and home dialysis. A well respected clinician, he has been voted by 5280 Magazine as one of Denver's "top docs". He is board certified in Nephrology and Internal Medicine.

 

Dr. Michel Chonchol is Associate Medical Director of the Chronic Hemodialysis Program at UCD. He earned his medical degree at the Unviersidad Central de Venezuela in Caracas, Venezuela. he completed an internship and a residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, as well as a clincal and research fellowshilp in Nephrology at UCD. He is board certfiied in Internal Medicine and Nephrology and a member of numerous societies. His research and clinical interests include cardiovasular disease and abnormalities of mineral metabolism in chronic kidney disease patients.

 

 

Dr. Richard Johnson has practiced nephrology for over 20 years and is well known for his work on hypertension and kidney disease. A well respected clinician, he is also editor of the currently top selling textbook on clinical kidney disease, Comprehensive Clincial Nephrology. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, and is board certified in Nephrology, Infectious Diseases, and Internal Medicine.

 

Dr. Robert Schrier has practiced Internal Medicine and Nephrology for close to 40 years. He is one of the most well respected physicians in the world and has edited numerous books including the major reference textbook in Nephrology, Diseases of the Kidney and Urinary Tract.

 

 

 

Dr. Joshua Thurman did his fellowship in Renal Diseases at the University of Colorado. He specializes clinically in glomerular diseases. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology.

 

Barbara Weis is the nurse practitioner at the clinic. She specializes in patient and nurse education about chronic kidney disease. she is an active nurse educator for the National Kidney Foundation.
