The University of Colorado Denver, College of Nursing provides a variety of educational pathways for entry into the nursing profession and for professional development, including advancement into graduate studies. The competency-based curriculum assures relevant, quality learning. Online courses are available, and are linked to clinical experiences arranged in the student’s home community. The Bachelors and Masters degree programs are accredited by the National League for Nursing Commission on Accreditation (NLNAC) and the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

Baccalaureate nursing education provides entry into the nursing profession with the Bachelor of Science degree. Graduates are prepared for a career in a variety of practice settings as a professional nurse generalist after passing the RN licensure examination. Baccalaureate education is also the initial step toward nursing careers for which advanced level education is required. The program is available in either the traditional or accelerated formats, each designed to meet the needs of individuals with varying educational backgrounds and preferences for pace of study.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing program consists of two options – Traditional and Accelerated. The same 66 nursing credits are taken for both options. All deadlines are the same for both options.

  1. Traditional Option: This program is a full-time program only. The pace of this program facilitates integration of learning and acknowledges     that students balance a number of responsibilities while completing their nursing education.

    Start Dates:
      Every Summer session and Spring
      semester of the following year.
      
    Application Deadlines:
      Priority Deadline:  August 31;
      Final Deadline:
      November 15. 

  2. Accelerated Option: Applicants who have earned a bachelor's degree by August 31st, for the priority deadline; or by December 31 for the f          final deadline are eligible for the accelerated option. There is no expiration date for the degree. This is a full-time program only. This accelerated pace requires a more rigorous schedule, but also promotes enhanced synthesis and integration of program content.

New Policies Effective June 2007:
(Applications are open every year from July 1-November 15)

  1. On-Line Application Only: Beginning with the July 2007 application cycle, all applications must be submitted on-line. Payment of application fee must be mailed to the College of Nursing at the address below. Applications are open every year from July 1 - November 15.

  2. Overall GPA Required to Apply = 3.00 or better
    To be eligible to apply to the BS program, the overall GPA for ALL regionally accredited college/university courses taken up to the end of the final Fall semester must be 3.00 or better.  There are no exceptions.  Please note that an application fee is not refundable.  This includes an application submitted with an overall GPA of lower than 3.00.

  3. 10 Year Time Limit on Prerequisites/Electives
    Prerequisites (and electives for applicants without a bachelor’s degree) must be no older than 10 years by the application deadline of November 15.  Courses that are over 10 years old by the application deadline are not transferable and therefore must be repeated.

  4. TOEFL Test Required for All Applicants with a Primary Language other than English
    The TOEFL test is required for U.S. citizens, U.S. permanent residents who are not fluent in English.  Please check the Quick Info box under Application Information for more details.

  5. Firm Deadlines: All parts of the application are due in the College of Nursing office by the required deadlines.  For more details, please check the Quick Info Box under Application Deadlines & Info for the all deadlines details.
    Priority Application Deadline: August 31 – For applicants with all prerequisites and electives completed by August 31.
    Final Application Deadline: November 15 – For all applicants.

  6. Applicant Responsibility: It is the responsibility of the applicant to plan ahead to ensure that all parts of the application  arrive at the College of Nursing by the deadlines. Please check the Quick Info Box under Deadline Information for all deadline details.
